Cleavage, bare shoulders, bare backs, arms and underarms really don't have a place in the house of worship...i.e. church. While "come as you are" is a true saying and certainly applies...this post is really for those who are "regulars" and so should recognize that there is a proper way to come to the sanctuary and an improper way.
Jesus said that to look on a woman with lust was to commit adultery (or fornication) with her in the heart.
Matthew 5:28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
So, obviously to dress in a sensual manner, especially when going to church, is outside of the will of God and you are definitely NOT walking in love...because love does not cause another to stumble (in this case, the man who is trying to focus on the things of God, and in particular the single man who is not committing fornication).
1 John 2:10 He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.
Especially with today's ultra short skirts, stomach baring tops, deep plunging necklines and painted on pants, men have a lot to contend with...especially a man who is determined to please God and not entertain lustful thoughts in his heart and mind. So, this man is fighting a battle every day. Must he really fight that battle when he comes to worship God on Sunday too?
Unfortunately, many men do, because women who profess they love Christ have not submitted to God's will in dressing modestly. A dress can be more immodest than a pair of pants, depending on how the dress is cut, if it is very short and skin tight. A pair of loose slacks with a long tunic top can be very modest in comparison.
When getting dressed, can you ask the Lord if your outfit is appropriate...or are you simply letting mainstream media be your guide?
This topic is close to my heart and I could go on and on, so I'll stop here.
I just want to show how you can change a halter dress that you may have purchased that dips a little low into a dress that you can also wear to church on Sunday, or anytime you want mover coverage. Shopping for modest clothing can be a challenge in this day and simple adjustments like this one can make a world of difference. Here is an example:
Slip a cami
or tank underneath so cleavage isn't exposed. Make sure you pick a tank or cami that comes up high enough...or you are defeating the purpose. Cover bare shoulders
with a shrug (you may prefer a shrug with long sleeves,
especially if the air conditioning is kicking). I picked black from
the dress for the cami, shrug and shoes. I decided to go with blue for
the bag. The earrings are faceted Aquamarine with Green Swarovski
crystals on long gold plated kidney wires. I love the Holy Bible
printed iPod cover (so many people read the Word on their iPods...looks
nice). What do you think?
